The news in Auckland

So my parents met with the specialist in Auckland yesterday, and it was all bad news. Dad has pancreatic cancer. Mum and Dad were hoping in would be a nice, contained, benign tumour. Turns out it looks like it involves the nearby artery and given the degree of pain Dad has, the doctor thinks it has metasticised. The folks were put on a plane back to Hawkes Bay and told to come up again next week for an investigative procedure. The doctors are very clear to say that until they've done this procedure they really don't know what they're dealing with, but everything else they say seems to be preparing Mum and Dad for the worst.

It hasn't been the greatest trip to Auckland. Although Auckland has been sensitive enough to rain non-stop for the past two days - the city feels appopriately solemn.

That is tough news. I haven't dealt with cancer yet but it seems to be a bitch of a disease. Best wishes.

Hi Cal,

It's a bitch. Been there, done it, although it was lots of years ago. Give me a shout if you want. T.
